Potty training pictureCall me crazy but I am making my New Year Resolution to Potty Train Isabella. I feel like every year has been the same with my New Year Resolution’s,  giving up chocolate, soda, volunteer more or go to the gym to get in shape. Yep, those lasted about a week and I never stick to it. I figure if I add Isabella to the mix, I won’t give up. Anything having to do with her just motivates me to do my best as a mommy.  I have read so many different things and have done tons of research. Some say wait until she is two, many tell me that if she is interested in the Potty to sit her on it (which I have done) or just wait until she is ready and does it on her own. I have heard so many different opinions when reading and talking to my friends/people, my head is going to explode.

When doing research I found this site that provided a bunch of great information that I am going to use.  Check out the Potty Training links below.

I also found this potty training chart I am going to use to make this milestone adventure a little more fun for the both of us.   Isabella loves games and if I use it as a motivation tool I think it might work. It says to give her a star after she goes on the potty. Who Knows and we shall see! :) I’ll keep you all updated. I would also love to hear suggestions from moms who have already potty trained and experienced this already. I need help and would love to hear tips from you! :)

  1. Potty training my daughter was soooo easy. It’s like I barely ever tried. She potty trained at 18 months and a few months after she was great regressed a bit and then had it completely. My son is 2 1/2 and has done it on his own a couple times, but totally isn’t into being “trained” so we’re taking it as it goes. I’m planning to really focus this spring/summer if he isn’t there yet by then. It’s warmer then to go around naked. ;) The biggest piece of advice I have isn’t with the method. My advice is get a travel potty. We have (and LOVE) the Fisher Price Potty on the Go. It has saved us many many many times on those times they have to go NOW (which is most times when traveling with a training kiddo). The other is always be prepared with extra changes of clothing and not to get too discouraged when they take a few steps back. It happens and she’ll get it. :) Good luck, Tara!!

Ohhh awesome! So I’m not that early with this. Everyone has been saying to wait, Isabella doesn’t tell me she has to go verbally but always heads toward the bathroom when she has to go. So, I thought it was time :) I’m hoping with consistency, I’ll get her trained in a couple of weeks. Thank you so much for the advice! It’s HUGE because not all kids are the same but usually have some sort of similarities. I bought a Potty on the go (the Kalencom 2-1 Potette, haven’t used it yet and if I don’t like it will def switch to yours), a regular potty training seat (baby bjorn) and one of those soft potty covers for when she’s ready for the big potty. I hope I have all my bases covered. Did you have them wear regular underwear during the day? Thanks so much Kel!

  3. Yeah we started training right in underwear, but the Gerber cloth trainers are awesome to help. ( http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-Training-Pants-Girls-Pack/dp/B000ULRE9E/ref=pd_sbs_a_1 ) They won’t hold an accident, but they are PERFECT for those times when they have that tiny dribble that they went a tiny bit but then stopped to make it to the potty. These things saved so many pairs of pants in the later stages of training as they will hold that little bit from getting to the pants right away. So when we decided potty training we quit diapers and let the accident happen and used the Gerbers and then when she got good then wore regular underwear. Hope that makes sense. ;)

The Potty on the Go just rocks because you don’t need to buy anything special to make it work. You just use the tiny trash can bags and they are good to go. They came with these “absorbent pads” to help soaking the pee up, but they are pretty pointless and they are just breast pads for when you’re breastfeeding anyway. I think that was the selling feature of the potty. It’s definitely been good to us.

But it sounds like you’re good to go and like you said consistency matters most!
