Today is the day to be Debbie Downer! I’m a huge fan of most of Johnson’s products but this past weekend my mother in law introduced me to this New Johnson & Johnson Baby daily face and body sunscreen lotion and I’m not a big fan. Yes, it did it’s job and worked well for SPF 40 but Isabella looked like a mime walking out of the house. The cream is white and didn’t rub in well at all. I finally had to wipe off her face and went back to my other baby sunscreen. No more tears for baby but what about us moms? I almost cried when my daughter looked like a clown after the application. And…Isabella wanted to cry too because she wanted me to stop touching her face. Mom’s if your reading this and have used this new lotion, please feel free to add your honest thoughts. Did you have a different experience or does my childs skin not absorb this new lotion well? lol Thanks in advance! Johnson’s baby daily face and lotion is NOT stamped with Approval by Baby or Momma!

I’ve never even seen this lotion. Does it contain Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide? This could be the reason why it might leave a white residue on the skin. There are 2 types of sun lotions sunscreens and sun blocks. Sunscreens are made with chemicals absorbed into the skin while sun blocks create a physical barrier on the skin. You usually need less sun block then you do sunscreen.
We use a sun block and for several minutes after applying it my daughter does often have a white residue on her skin. It usually fades if not a bit more rubbing usually rights the problem.
I find sun blocks offer more protection from the sun and last a bit longer. I would rather have my daughter look a bit white and be well protected then end up with sun damage.
BTW having a white residue could also have a bit to do with Isabella’s skin tone.
Hi Fiery,
Thanks for the comment. It’s Johnson’s newest product. If you haven’t seen it in stores or magazines you will definitely say “oh, that’s the lotion on Babymommablog that Tara was talking about” when you see a commercial of it. lol Although it might have all of that stuff…I don’t want my child walking to the beach with a white face. And if I could spread the word to other moms before they buy it and go through the same thing…I’ll do it
I rubbed and rubbed until she got annoyed then just washed her face off with a rag and went back to my old stuff. If I didn’t have anything other than that then I would just use it but I love Coppertone especially after this incident. Also, I used in on my skin too (I’m fair skinned) and it did the same. Not a fan and after the experience….not going back. I wish I could return the bottle! :p
We love our Alba Botanica sunscreen and California Baby sunscreen both are rated reasonably well by the Environmental Working Group http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/best-beach-sport-sunscreens/ but are still easy to apply and don’t leave white residue.
We also tried a couple that we didn’t like
- Badger sunscreen felt a little gritty and left a bit of a white residue
– UV Naturals was runny messy and difficult to apply

We are beginning to run low on our sunscreen and are looking at restocking with two new brands
Loving Naturals the #1 rated sunscreen by EWG as it is now available by a new local store that has focused on providing a wide selection of non-toxic, natural and safe personal care and other products http://www.puralternatives.ca/proddetail.asp?prod=LN001%2E2
Heiko also highly rated and I just noticed it on significant mark down in the natural products section of our local grocery store.
Just noticed that it appears the Johnson and Johnsons product you reviewed is on the EWG list – here’s the link for anyone who wanted additional details
