We all go through the nesting phase at some stage during our pregnancies. If you are anything like me you will have moved the furniture, decor and clothing more times than you can count on one hand… even before bub is born. We all want the perfect nursery to bring our bundle of joy home to but many of us mother don’t have the budget to spend on expensive decor and furnishings.  In this blog I will show you how you can create a beautiful gender neutral nursery for under $1000.

The Essential Furniture

First start with the essential things that you will need for your baby. This will include the crib, nursing chair, change table (unless you intend on changes on the couch or bed) and rocker/bouncer. Often these things can be purchased second hand for less than half the price you would pay for them new. Try searching on local buy and sell Facebook pages before heading to local baby stores. Many mothers will only use these furniture pieces for one or two years before their children have outgrown them and they are ready to be passed on. If you can’t find what you are looking for second hand, my next port of call is Kmart. The nursery items sold at Kmart look the same, if not better than the ‘brand name’ items sold online for three times the cost.
