n35449868467_7045This Winter I signed Isabella up for The Music Class in Philadelphia and she LOVES it! This year we were hammered with snow so this indoor activity was perfect for the winter months. The Music Class is an early childhood music education company designed to unleash the musical potential of young children.  Featuring award winning music, engaging activities, CD’s, teacher training and curricula, they are proud of the high standard they set in the field of early childhood music education.  Research shows that early childhood is the window of opportunity to increase the lifelong music aptitude of a child. The Music Class provided several programs that capitalize on this critical time period.  Classes are available for children the from ages birth-7 years and all glasses are in a fun group setting of up to eight families.

The first day of class we were provided a CD with all the songs (so we can learn to sing along in class) and a music book with all the words.  Isabella was really skeptical during her first class but now she sings, plays and dances along to the music.  At the end of the class our teacher sings a song, “I’m so Happy I saw (then whoever was in the class)”.  Today Isabella kept singing (in her own jibber jabber) and the only word I could understand Happy, Happy! lol  I just laughed then started to sing along with her. We will be sure to sign up for the classes again and again! She loves it!  Take a look here for a location near you!

Sandra BullockFor those of you who didn’t get the chance to stay up for the Academy Awards last night, I hope you tapped it! I am a complete zombie right now and guzzling down my coffee to keep my eyes open.  There were amazing awards handed out to amazing people and it was truly worth every minute past my bedtime. Sandra Bullock won Best Actress (I apologize now for giving it away if you have it taped to watch later) and during her speech (which was AMAZING!!!) she gave a shout out to all of us Mommies. She just seems so genuine and kind. Take a look!

logo_vtechThis past February I was one of the lucky Bloggers selected to join VTech in New York City for their 2010 Product Launch. Introducing 2010 Toys That Put Innovative Technology in Kids Hands was their slogan this year. The most talked about and innovative toys coming to the market this year are the MobiGo, a touch-screen hand held game console (it reminds me of a kid version of the Kindle), FLiP, the world’s first children’s animated e-reader and VTech’s first-ever electronic bath toys!!! When introduced to these toys during the one on one interviews, I couldn’t believe my eyes. All of these products are amazing! I wanted to take them all home and review them with Isabella. The whole 2010 line is very reasonably priced for each toy and has such great interactive and imaginative offerings. From birth to age seven, your children will benefit from this new and exciting technology line. I wanted to stay and play with them the whole day and I’m 29! Who know’s, I just might ask for a MobiGo for Christmas this year. :p

seuss2Dr. Seuss books were my all time favorite as a kid and now I love reading them to Isabella.  Theodor Seuss Geisel, born March 2, 1904 was the Author of these famous books we all love so much!  Also know as Author, Cartoonist, Animator, he published over 60 children books and were often characterized by imaginative characters and rhyme.   He has made such a positive yet creative impact with these books they are sure to be ones we will never forget.  I will be sure to help pass these books down through my children in hopes they will keep the Seuss reading alive!

Read Across America is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. One part of the project is National Read Across America Day, an observance in the United States held on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

**Colored Eggs are NOT included**

Another snow day! Ugh! I’m running out of things to do :p  I knew the storm was coming and thought we would do some Easter Egg coloring early.  Coloring eggs the old fashion way is way to messy at Isabella’s age so when I saw this kit I was so excited.  As you can see in my video it’s very easy to use and clean. Isabella was able to be involved without making a mess, EVERYONE WINS! The kit includes the Egg Spinner, Bag Hand Puppet (to pick up the eggs and not get your hands colored), 1 Filler Egg for fun, a Glitter Shaker and 5 Dazzling Color Packets.  The box also has a Egg Color Mixing Chart to make more colors. LOVE IT!  Colors included are Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green and Pink.  We had a blast with this and definitely recommend it for fun with a little one! Dudley’s SPIN AN EGG Decorating Kit is Stamped with Approval by BabyMommaBlog!

WARNING: Choking Hazard-Small parts. Not for children under 3 years old!!!!!

Note: I couldn’t find this online anywhere to link to accept Amazon. They do not have any available.  I bought this at Target so go check it out :)

CPSC ImageThe amount of crib recalls this year have been ridiculous this year! I’m glad this is a work in progress.  I could not imagine going through what some parents have experienced with their cribs.  Take a look at this message Chairman Tenenbaum gives to manufactures.  I cannot agree more!

5 Time-Out Techniques

time out 2Ever since Isabella was around the age of one I started to discipline.  I’m not one to believe that hitting is a method, so we use the time out corner in our house.  My friends and family are shocked at how when I tell Isabella to go in the corner, she goes and stays.  So, I thought I would share my tips on how I make it work.  My way might not be your way but if your looking for help, here is how I do it.  First off, I would like to mention that I get a lot  of my tips from the show SuperNanny.  I refuse to have a child that acts like some of those kids on that show and if they do, they will know the consequences. Every time I watch that show I wonder how they ever get that way.  After seeing how Super Nanny transforms families and instills positive results, I thought if I start with these tips from the get go. So far so good!  So back to the time out corner and discipline.

supernanny

1. Like Supernanny says, be consistent.   When I start putting Isabella in the corner for misbehaving after I say no, she goes in the corner. If I punished her once for that reason, make sure you do it going forward until he/she understands that what they are doing means not to do it again.

2. 1 minute for each year of age is what I heard and have been going with.  Isabella now sits in time out for 2 minutes at the age of two.  She says, Mommy, Mommy.  After two minutes I go over and tell her what she did wrong and why I put her in the corner.  She then usually hugs me and gives me a kiss :p

3. At first if they keep coming out, like SuperNanny says….Keep physically putting them back.  The first time, just put them in the corner.  Second time tell them why they are there. After that you just keep putting them back and not say anything. After time out is up, I get down to her level and tell her why she was in there.  Give her a kiss and tell her I love her.   Starting this when she was one and now that she is two when  I say go in the corner, she now just goes. People are shocked.

4.  I discipline her where ever I am.  If I’m at a friends house, I find a corner.  I was recently visiting a friend of mine that had children and Isabella thought it was funny to run across the couch.  She knows better to do it at our house but thought maybe because we were at someone else’s she could get away with it.  Nope!  I put her in the corner and she hasn’t done it again any where else since.  I find a corner everywhere.

5. Pick the right place for you.  Time out Stool, Step, Mat or Corner.  Make sure it’s a boring place!

One big thing I do if is not just notice when she is bad.  I also notice when she does something good.  If  she takes out a toy and put it back or if she is coloring and doesn’t use that crayon anywhere else, I make a point to let her know how great it was for her to do that and say Great Job Isabella. Mommy is so proud of you for whatever.  Reward her, not so much. Rewarding for acting a way you should is not the key in my mind.  She should just know how happy I am for doing the right thing.

I also want to share that Anthony and I also discipline each other for what we discipline her for.   We often goof around and wrestle. We did it way before Isa was born.  We now put each other in the corner.  The best was the other day when we had lunch at his office.  Anthony’s two other partners were there and Anth hit my leg just goofing around.  I think he actually asked me to pass him the salt or something.  Isa  was right there and saw it.  I got to put him in the corner in front of everyone.  He was then a good boy :P HILARIOUS!
